James Umali

James Umali is a mechanical/structural engineer at Northrop Grumman in Azusa, CA, where he has been primarily involved with mechanical design, analysis, integration, and test of the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) and the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) instruments since 2009.  He joined the Space Structures Lab in July 2015 to support the Space Solar Power Initiative (SSPI) program, engaged in understanding the dynamic behavior of the stowed system subject to launch vibration loading.  He obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering with a Mathematics Minor at UCLA while assisting with research on acoustically-forced fuel droplet combustion at the UCLA Energy and Propulsion Research Laboratory until graduating in 2009.  He completed his Masters of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at UCLA in 2014.
